Vancouver Office
Best Cyclotron Systems was first established in 2009 in Springfield, Virginia, U.S.A., for the design and production of commercial cyclotrons. The company is a subsidiary of Best Medical International, a company renowned in the field of medical instrumentation and radiation therapy. Soon after its founding, Best Cyclotron Systems opened a design office in Vancouver, BC, Canada, while using the manufacturing facilities at Best Theratronics in Ottawa, Ontario for the purpose of building and testing these devices. There are four proton models they are currently working on – the B15, B25, B35 and B70 cyclotrons.
American Branch
ABT Molecular Imaging, Inc., later renamed Best Cyclotron Systems, Inc., was founded by Ron and Lynda Nutt in 2006 and is located in Knoxville, Tennessee where clinical PET (Positron Emission Therapy) was developed beginning in the early 1980's. Their vision was, and remains, expanding access to PET throughout the world.
This vision is being realized through the "Dose on Demand" Biomarker Generator by providing researchers and clinicians on-demand access to PET biomarkers.
The B-100 Biomarker Generator Cyclotron
Once known as the BG-75, it is a small, simple, cost effective mini-cyclotron isotope generator with integrated microchemistry and automated quality control to deliver PET biomarkers at the push of a button. It functions as a self-contained PET biomarker lab that fits in a single 30 square-meter room and can be easily integrated into an existing clinical or research setting, adjacent to clinical or research PET imaging equipment without the need for highly specialized staff.
The small size and integrated components take the place of a large, conventional system requiring a 371.61 square meter facility, with fully equipped hot labs, quality control equipment, and significant staffing for operation. The size, cost and complexity difference provides a much lower barrier to entry to have access to radioisotopes on demand, and enables the expansion of advanced radiochemistry research in clinical and pre-clinical Molecular Imaging.
Broader access to PET biomarkers will aid in the development of new biomarker technology, advance PET imaging and contribute to realizing the potential of molecular imaging's contribution towards personalized medicine. ABT has installed Biomarker Generators in many parts of the world, including USA, Western and Eastern Europe, Russia and Latin America. We provide global installation, service and applications support from our Manufacturing & Research Center in Knoxville TN, very close to where clinical PET was developed over the past 25 years at CTI Molecular Imaging, which Dr. Nutt co-founded.
ABT's Merger with Best Cyclotron Systems
On November 12, 2018, Best Medical purchased ABT Molecular Imaging, as described in this press release, and renamed the company Best ABT. More than three years later, it became the American branch of Best Cyclotron Systems, Inc., and was renamed accordingly.
